More Reasons - 3/24/2025
1. By all accounts, Maryland should not have beaten Colorado State, however the mascot gods smiled upon their cool looking terrapin, which is probably why they got away with that arguable traveling call on the buzzer beater.
2. Maryland obliterated Grand Canyon in the first round, and survived a nail biter against CSU, so they've won big and also had to battle to reach the Sweet Sixteen.
3. I bet against Maryland getting to the elite 8, which obviously means they will make it.
4. At one point down the final stretch, Maryland held CSU to 2 points in 6 minutes. Relentless defense in a tournament where many teams are struggling to score consistently (see Florida v. UConn)
5. Maryland went 6-13 from beyond the arc in the second half. They will need that against Florida.

Original Reasons - 3/18/2025
1. I’ve actually heard of Maryland, out of the gate something I cannot say about everyone else.
2. They have a cool mascot. That terrapin is objectively a good mascot, the mascot gods are fickle and going into the tournament, having them on your side is a bonus. This is why Providence is not in the tournament.
3. The ghost of Len Bias.
4. Maryland has been kind of a wagon lately, winning 11 in a row and the only losses were by the thinnest of margins.
